University Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) which was previously named Geomatika College of Technology and is located in Kuala Lumpur is one of the cheapest private universities in Malaysia. In the year 2000, Geomatika University College (GUC) started as a Vocational Centre, specializing in Land Surveying. Geomatika applied for college status and received clearance from the Ministry of Education, citing a growing demand for such a specialization.

Geomatika created its Department of Geospatial and Land Development and launched the Center of GIS (CeGIS) Short Courses Program in Geospatial Technology and the Certificate in Land Assistantship Surveying in response to high demand.

The university vision is a preferred tertiary education provider of choice. The mission is also to provide postsecondary education at the best level in academic and vocational programs, to ensure that all students have equitable access to education by ensuring that their learning journeys and experiences are meaningful, and to produce future graduates capable of serving society and contributing to the development of a more civilized nation.

To date, GUC has 12 faculties with more than 3000 students.  It offers approximately 46 courses for part-time and full-time students. It also has an English preparation center for International Students to meet the English proficiency standard requirement before entering the academic programs by giving related preparation classes.

Awards and Recognition

During the establishment of Geomatika University College, as a company or institution, the university has received numerous awards from various authorities and organizations, Geomatika university ranking is well known among Malaysia universities. They believe it’s important to celebrate success, but to drive more success, they need to raise a bit each time they achieve something. These rewards and recognitions include:

  • E50 Awards (2013, 2014)– The awards attracted 1798 companies, but only the top 50 were chosen based on significant financial and non-financial criteria. Deloitte Malaysia was in charge of the vetting and review process.
  • SCORE– SME Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement (SCORE) is a diagnostic tool for assessing and improving SMEs’ competitiveness based on their performance and capabilities. SCORE has also been used as a business matching tool to improve market access, as well as an initial indicator for evaluating access to finance. Geomatika Edugroup Sdn Bhd received a 4-star rating out of a possible 5-star rating from SCORE.
  • TERAS– TERAS is a group of TERAJU High-Performing Companies. Geomatika Edugroup Sdn Bhd, as a TERAS company, has access to a wide range of opportunities in staff training and business support.
  • MyQUEST– MyQUEST is a tool for monitoring an institution’s quality based on student experience, infrastructure, program delivery, and accreditation. Geomatika received a 4-star rating for college-based in the most recent MyQUEST rating.
  • ISO9001 QMS– Geomatika University College obtained and has maintained its ISO9001 QMS for Technical Programs Delivery since 2012. ISO is an internationally recognized Quality Management System. To achieve high quality and customer satisfaction, GUC has maintained standard operating procedures.
  • AWARD– MOHE awarded Geomatika University College the Best International Students Office award in 2015. International students make up 20% of GUC students, and the university hopes to increase this percentage in the future.
  • Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Tourism Awards 2017- Geomatika University College has been named one of the top three institutions for the Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Tourism Awards 2017 in the category of Education Tourism. This is due to GUC’s central Kuala Lumpur location and the fact that it has more than 20%, international students.

English Preparation Center

English Preparation Centre provides rigorous, progressive, and individualized English language classes for current and prospective students of all levels of English proficiency.

The English Preparation Centre focuses on improving students listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar skills so that they may communicate clearly and successfully in the academic world and beyond.

In addition, the English Preparatory Centre helps International Students satisfy the English proficiency requirements before enrolling in academic programs by providing related preparation classes. Local students can also enroll in any programs in the English Preparation Center to strengthen their communication or writing abilities to meet the needs of the market for English.

Laboratory Testing Services

As part of the Faculty of Bioeconomics and Health Sciences revenue generation, GUC provides laboratory testing services to identify product components using an advanced technology known as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The components of a product can be detected using PCR. This can aid in gaining a better understanding of a product’s ingredients and formulation.

Entrepreneurs who want to expand their business by learning more about their products can benefit greatly from this service. It is also appropriate for those who want to gain hands-on experience with molecular work, regardless of their background or experience.

Accommodation

Accommodation Geomatika University Malaysia

There are two types of accommodation at Geomatika University college. Dormitory hostel which is located within the main campus area and 5 minutes walking distance and PV 20 & PV 21 Condominium which is located about 5.5 km from GUC. Transportation is provided from this recently developed condominium to and from GUC.

All accommodations are fully furnished and located close to the university. Single, twin-sharing, triple-sharing, or quadruple-sharing are types of rooms available. Room allocation service will be based on a first-come, first-served basis since places are limited. both the dormitory hostel and condominium are equipped with a bed frame and Mattress, wardrobe, wi-fi access, Ceiling fan, power outlets, and table study and chair.

There are bus transportation services to transport from Hostel to GUC and from GUC to the hostel. There are 4-6 trips between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M., 2 trips between 12:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M., and 2 trips between 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. Students should come at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. In addition, for identification purposes, they must wear their ID card and GUC Lanyard.

Clubs and Activities

Students at Malaysia’s Geomatika University College are encouraged to participate in a diverse educational experience that will help them improve their interpersonal and communication skills while learning about other cultures. They can participate in extracurricular activities such as camping, mountain climbing, futsal, and bowling through groups and societies such as the Debating Club, Drama Club, Entrepreneurship Club, and Go Holiday Club. Students are also encouraged to volunteer and participate in community service.

Student Council

This is the ‘voice of the students,’ and it is made up of delegates from every club and society on campus. It is in charge of organizing a wide range of activities both on and off campus.

Malaysian Cultural Society (MCS), Bangladeshi Students Community, Arabian Community & Borneo Club

These community clubs and communities are open to students of all races and origins and aim to encourage and celebrate varied cultures among students and staff.

Football, Badminton, Futsal, Volleyball & Netball Club

These clubs were founded in response to the growing interest among students in the “world’s most beautiful game” and its spin-off. They were formed by groups of students who are passionate about it. Internal and foreign tournaments were hosted by the teams.

Dance & Drama

A new club founded by a group of vibrant, young, and active students with a passion for the performing arts.

Debating And Public Speaking Club

Another newly founded club that aims to attract students who value commutative and critical thinking abilities. To improve their presenting abilities, students constantly prepare for internal and external debates as well as public speaking competitions.

Peers And Guidance Club (PRS)

Provides students with a range of events and activities aimed to better acquaint them with the campus and their friends, easing the adjustment to college life.

Early Childhood Education Club

Encourages leadership development initiatives to supplement classroom learning and benefit the community.

GUC Computer Club

Through workshops and seminars, provides the structure and resources for students to gain hands-on experience and networking opportunities.

English Language Club

Provides a fantastic opportunity for students to socialize, lead, broaden their horizons, make friends, and have fun while learning English.

How to Apply

Visa application and requirements

After acceptance in GUC, you have to provide the following documents and fees:

  • Payment of the RM4,000 (USD934) as a pre-arrival application processing fee
  • 4 passport-sized photos with WHITE background (35 mm x 45 mm).
  • Any passport page with Visa Information, any page with passport Data (bio-data), and any page containing Observation (showing any extensions, clarifications of name, and previous passport numbers). The passport must be valid for at least 18 months after the date of application.
  • Report of the Pre-Arrival Medical Exam.
  • Any additional essential documentation that the University may request in support of your visa application.

Note: Once a visa has been filed for and accepted, international students are not permitted to modify their program of study. If an international student wishes to alter their program of study, they must reapply for a new Student Pass (Visa).

 Upon Arrival

You need to make the following fees after your visa has been issued in order to make arrangements for your arrival in Malaysia.

    • Intended Course Fee (1 year) – RM11,000
    • IELTS exam conducted by IDP Malaysia – RM900
    • Airport pick-up arrangement – RM300
    • Grand total (after discount) – RM12,145

Post-arrival EMGS Medical Check-Up charge in Malaysia and i-Kad (International Student Card issued by Immigration Malaysia), Medical Insurance for one year, Student Pass price, and Personal Bond fee are included in undergraduate course fees. Please note that after accepting a student into the program, these costs are non-refundable.

Scholarship

Yayasan Geomatika is a foundation dedicated to assisting potential students who wish to continue their education at any of the Geomatika Education Group institutions. The Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952, Act 258, governs it, and it has the registration number PPAB-03/2013. The three (3) major goals of Yayasan Geomatika are as follows:

    • To provide financial help and assistance to unfortunate students, as well as any other criteria agreed upon by “Lembaga Pemegang Amanah,” in order for them to continue their studies at any of Geomatika Education Group institutions.
    • To provide financial help and support to single mothers, disabled people, and orphans.
    • To assist victims of natural catastrophes financially.
