Best Universities in Malaysia

According to the 2024 QS World University Rankings, University of Malaya (UM) has maintained its position as Malaysia’s top university for six years running. With an astounding five-place jump in this 20th edition of the rankings, UM now stands at 65th place globally.

Coming closely on its heels is University Science Malaysia (USM). This year saw the USM advance six places from 143rd to 137th, thereby sharing its ranking with the esteemed University of Science and Technology of China.

Both Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru are home to campuses of University Technology Malaysia, a public institution of higher education that specializes in engineering and technology. It provides both undergraduate and graduate education in a wide range of fields. The largest concentration in engineering and technology but also including schools of science, biosciences and medical engineering. QS University Rankings currently places Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at #188 globally and #39 in Asia.

The Universal Commercial Services Institute (UCSI) was established in 1986 as a private university in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A 2024 QS ranking of universities places it at #300 globally and #72 in Asia. This university is well-known as first private school in Malaysia by the prestigious Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). More than 12,000 students from 110 countries are enrolled in its 131 courses.
