International students wishing to continue their education in Malaysia will require a student visa Malaysia. Any foreign national wishing to enter Malaysia must obtain a Pass based on their intended purpose of travel. As a result, you’ll require a Malaysia Student Pass to study in Malaysia.

Both the terms Malaysia Student Pass and Malaysia Student Visa are frequently used interchangeably, and they both refer to the same item by all definitions.

Malaysia Student Visa Requirements

Depending on the step you are in to get a student visa you need different documents.

Documents for New student pass Application

1 Passport Size Photograph

1- A passport-size photograph with WHITE background (35mm x 45mm).

A copy of your Passport

It will be necessary for you to provide a copy of your passport. This is what we require:

Data page from your passport (bio-data page which shows your face, name, etc)

every page includes Visa information. Not all of your passport’s pages are necessary. No need to submit the page if it’s blank.

Note: When submitting a student pass application to EMGS, students who are citizens of the following nations are required to include copies of ALL passport pages:

  • Libya
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Yemen

A page for observations (showing any extensions, clarifications of name, and previous passport numbers)

18 months is the advised passport validity period.

Note: For applications for one-time Student Passes, the recommended validity is one year more than the period of study.

Exit stamp or special pass (if applicable)

Offer Letter

You must submit a copy of your offer letter when you apply for a student visa in Malaysia. If you are submitting an application online, you won’t be able to fill out the form and submit it until you obtain a letter of acceptance or offer from your school.

Health Declaration Form

To apply for a student visa in Malaysia, you must complete and submit a copy of the health declaration form. We will upload the scanned copy of the application if you are submitting it online.

Your academic certificates and transcripts

You must submit copies of any academic records, diplomas, and transcripts from prior coursework. There are extra entry criteria for some courses. Check your educational institution’s admittance criteria for details on these additional needs.
Before visiting Malaysia, you will need to get the needed vaccinations if you are traveling from a nation with a high risk of yellow fever.

You need to present your yellow fever vaccine booklet or card before passing through immigration at the point of entry.

The World Health Organization defines places or nations with prevalent risk of yellow fever transmission as those recording yellow fever currently or in the past, and those where vectors and animal reservoirs exist now.

Personal Bond

The Immigration Department mandates all educational institutions in Malaysia to sign a personal bond on the candidate’s behalf, binding the University for a specific amount. The institution will request you to deposit the required sum to fulfill this obligation.

Provided there’s no violation of any Malaysian immigration rules, the institution will return this money to you when you complete or withdraw from your studies.

No-Objection Certificate (NOC)

Only students from Sudan are required to have a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). The institution must apply for this document, and only institution representatives may pick it up from the Sudanese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

Letter Of Eligibility (LOE)

Only students from Iran are needed to submit a Letter of Eligibility (LOE). At the Iranian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the institution must submit an LOE on behalf of the student. Following approval of the LOE application, the embassy will instantly send EMGS the LOE information. It is not necessary for Institute officials to pick up the LOE from the Iranian Embassy.

English Language Requirement

Since English is the primary medium of instruction in Malaysian colleges, you must demonstrate that you are proficient enough to fully engage in your course. This indicates that admission requires skill in English.

You must provide proof of an appropriate level of English language competence when applying for a Visa Approval Letter (VAL). You must upload the certificate as part of your application. The English language tests that can be used to apply for a student pass are:

  1. PTE – Academic (Pearson Test of English),
  2. IELTS (International English Language Testing System),
  3. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language),
  4. CAE (Cambridge English: Advance),
  5. CPE (Cambridge English: Proficiency), and
  6. MUET (Malaysian University English Test)

Important information: The processing of your VAL application may be delayed if you fail to attach your English language certificate when creating it. For the duration of your course, you will also not be qualified to get a student pass.

Additional Documents for Sarawak Application

Authorization Letter

You must receive a letter of authorization from your university since it must be included with your application for a student permit.
Authorization letters confirm who will be handling the student’s application and supporting papers on behalf of the university.

Cover Letter

In addition, a cover letter must be uploaded as part of your application for a student permit.
Note: The Institute sends Sarawak Immigration a cover letter to let them know that a student intends to apply for a student pass.

Pre-Val Medical Report

Kindly upload your Pre-VAL medical report from your home country (as applicable) if an unregistered international clinic performed the screening. Ensure that the Medical Report is written entirely in English. If you choose a licensed clinic for the Pre-VAL Medical Screening, you can skip this step as the clinic will handle everything for you.

Your Academic Certificates and Transcripts

You must submit copies of any academic records, diplomas, and transcripts from prior coursework. There are extra entry criteria for some courses. Check your educational institution’s admittance criteria for details on these additional needs.

You must attain a CGPA of at least 2.0 for the renewal of your student pass. Additionally, your overall attendance must reach at least 80% for the renewal.

If you don’t meet any of the mentioned standards, your institution needs to provide an explanation letter to support your renewal application.

Malaysia Student Visa Age Limit

There is no age limit for international students who want to get Malaysian student visas. The students must have finished their 12 years of study as a minimum requirement.  The only age limit is for language centers which is age 18 to 37 years old as of the date of application.

Medical Screening

With a combination of both public and private clinics and hospitals, Malaysia has a good healthcare system. Numerous of its towns and cities also provide a wide range of complementary therapies, including as acupuncture, Chinese medicine, chiropractic care, osteopathy, naturopathy, and homeopathy.

Insurance

Every student entering Malaysia must possess medical insurance. A locally acquired medical health insurance program is required for all international students. If you advise your institution of the date as soon as you arrive in Malaysia, you will be covered as of that day.

  • Applying for a Malaysian student visa is quick and simple. Overall, the process of applying for and getting a visa normally takes four to six weeks.

2. Can I work on student visa in Malaysia?

  • All international students studying at public or private higher education institutions are allowed to work part-time for a maximum of 20 hours per week ONLY during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days at restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini markets and hotels as long as their student passes remain valid.
