Libraries

BSKL Libraries

It has always been important to BSKL to develop its libraries in a way that inspires students of all kinds and caters to their diverse reading preferences.

They are lucky to have three distinct libraries on campus: one for Early Years and Primary Infants (Key Stage 1), one for Primary Juniors (Key Stage 2), and another for Secondary, including Sixth Form.

Full-time teacher librarians are available to assist and foster a love of reading and learning in the pupils. The libraries are individually planned and adjusted for each level.

Early Years and Primary

Their major goal and greatest passion in the Early Years and Primary libraries is to encourage reading for fun so that our kids can develop a habit of reading and a love of books.

For the children to enjoy, they have created a fascinating, secure, laid-back, and encouraging environment. An outline of the work they conduct is provided below:

  • The primary library gives patrons access to high-caliber books that captivate, challenge, and engage readers.
  • Every class in Years 1 through 6 has a weekly library lesson taught by a primary school teacher who is fully certified and experienced. In this session, students are exposed to a variety of authors, genres, and reading materials that they might not typically choose to read.
  • Along with broadening their knowledge and perspective, this contributes to the development of a sense of the significance of books and other resources as a method of preserving and disseminating human accomplishments and ambitions.
  • Children will have the chance to acquire the knowledge and abilities required to use the library’s resources during these library lessons.

The shelves in the EY/Infants and Junior libraries run perpendicular to the windows in order to maximize the utilization of natural light.

Children can leisurely read the huge and constantly growing selection of both fiction and nonfiction books thanks to the wide passageways between the shelves.

The new library features specially designed, low-level picture book shelving that provides quick and secure access, making it appealing to users.

A designated non-fiction section is also there, replete with a “reading tower.” The non-fiction works are arranged using a visual method into topics. Even the tiniest kids can now locate books or put them back on the right shelf with ease.

Secondary and sixth Form

The Senior Library serves as the center of learning for our Secondary School, enhancing and assisting the Years 7–13 teaching and learning curricula.

They want to cultivate a lifelong love of independent learning and inquiry in the pupils. Through our print, digital, and audio-visual resources, their library serves as a portal to information literacy and digital skills, providing students with a space to investigate innovation in the world around them.

Reading Program

Every student in Grades 7-9 participates in a library session once a week to foster a love of reading, offer intervention to speed up kids’ reading development, and foster students’ research abilities. Weekly progress reviews and reading log entries are made.

Recommended Reading List

Their students love to read fiction, and they encourage them by regularly updating their titles from a wide variety of international literature and organizing our collection into categories so they may find the books they enjoy.

They receive invitations to review books on Destiny Follett and their OPAC system.

Digital Literacy Program

By fostering their digital literacy, they assist their students in navigating the digital age in which they live. The usage of these technological abilities is integrated throughout the curriculum to support student learning. Students have 24/7 access to online fiction and nonfiction through their approved website.
