Before moving to the Proposal Defence, the student must finish one taught module – Research Methods.

Class Schedule for Research Methods
This is a difficult course. Full time and part time students take classes for eight weeks (12 to 15 hours each week). When the students execute their research projects, these classes are followed by tutorials. Weekly schedules may differ from one year to the next.
Thesis
During their studies, the students will independently develop and carry out a large research project with the help of a supervisor.
Depending on the project, the emphasis will vary between theory and practice. Students will do major research with national and international implications and will publicly share their findings in order to connect with the academic community.

General Requirements
Candidates should have one of the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with minimum CGPA of 2.75, OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with CGPA between 2.50 and 2.75 can be accepted subject to a rigorous internal assessment; OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with CGPA of less than 2.50 can be accepted subject to having a minimum of 5 years working experience in a relevant field; AND
- Interview: Candidates are to pass an interview conducted by a panel from the School of Arts. This is to assess the candidate’s communication abilities and interest in research.
English Requirements
International candidates must demonstrate English ability sufficient to satisfy the program’s requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 OR its equivalent
If a student does not satisfy this prerequisite, the HEP provides English proficiency courses to guarantee that the student’s proficiency is adequate to meet the program’s requirements. This is usually done through an English language competence test.
