Program Review

Through lectures, workshops, lab experiments, and fieldwork, their students at Sunway University will be incorporated as members of their research groups and given several opportunities to engage in research with seasoned supervisors.

Graduates of the Master of Science in Computer Science (by Research) program will be proficient in both computer science and ICT theory and practice.

With their strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, they will be qualified to hold management or senior consulting roles in their field of study.

The graduates of the program will also get a degree from Lancaster University upon acceptable completion. With the two credentials they will get, they will have graduated from Lancaster University as well as Sunway University.

Program Structure

Two taught courses and one thesis make up the Master of Science in Computer Science (by Research). Prior to beginning the thesis writing process, students must finish the two taught modules, Research Methodology and Directed Readings.

Through these two modules, students will acquire the skills and information needed to successfully undertake research toward a master’s degree.

Research Methodology

Students will have the chance to look at the methodology and study designs used by researchers, as well as their data analysis strategies.

Upon completion of this module, applicants will be required to develop and present a research proposal in a field related to their area of interest or expertise.

Directed Readings

Students will get extensive reading lists and materials in this module to aid in the development of their hypotheses or areas of interest. This curriculum will also provide library skills and training on information and resource management.

Thesis

The completion of a thesis successfully determines the awarding of the MSc. Proficiency, critical thinking, and mastery in the topic or research field of choice should be demonstrated in the thesis.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Candidates should have one of the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computing with minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent
• Any other qualifications will be considered on a case-to-case basis and subject to the approval and acceptance by University Senate.

English Requirements

International candidates must demonstrate English ability sufficient to satisfy the program’s requirements:

• IELTS 6.0 or equivalent

Note: Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English would have met the language requirement.
