Students will be exposed to various aspects of research activities, such as conducting a comprehensive literature review, identifying areas of research contribution, and communicating research results through journal publications and conference presentations, while working closely with experienced supervisors.

The curriculum will prepare students to become specialists and qualified researchers by providing them with excellent mathematical, analytical, and statistical data analysis abilities.

In addition to the thesis component, candidates must complete three modules: Research Methodology, Academic Writing, and Research Proposal. Candidates who complete these modules will get the essential skills and knowledge to successfully conduct research toward the completion of their thesis.

Thesis

The PhD is granted upon satisfactory completion of a thesis. The thesis should demonstrate expertise, critical thinking, and knowledge of the subject or field of research selected.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Candidates should have one of the following qualifications:

• A Master Degree in mathematical sciences or related fields
• Any other qualifications will be considered on a case-to-case basis and subject to the approval and acceptance by University Senate.

English Requirements

International candidates must demonstrate English ability sufficient to satisfy the program’s requirements:

• IELTS 6.0 or equivalent

Note: Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English would have met the language requirement.

Study Format: Full-time

Studentship

Financial Aid Details:

• Master by Research: Not eligible for financial support.
• PhD Program: Offers a comprehensive package including 100% tuition fee waiver (covering registration and resource fees) and a monthly living allowance of RM3,000 for up to 36 months.

Eligibility for PhD Studentship:

• Open to Sunway University alumni who meet the PhD program entry requirements.
• A minimum CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent Merit grade.
• Requirement of at least one published journal article in WOS/Scopus as the first or corresponding author.
• Candidates will undergo an interview process. Studentship awards are granted based on a competitive selection.
