Architecture is both an art and a science. Its responsibilities include the design, development, and planning of the built environment, as well as the management of the construction process.
Architects play a critical role in the design and construction of buildings and habitats that serve as integrated solutions to issues and contexts as diverse as design, research, practice, construction, socio-culture, human behavior, history, and the environment.
An architect’s design could extend from working places and simple individual living, to communal and urban living of the society. In order to create a better built environment, such a role necessitates highly professional and ethical individuals, UTM‘s Bachelor of Science in Architecture program is designed to produce individuals capable of filling this role.
UTM Architecture and Surveying is offered in all bachelor, Master and PhD courses.
B.Sc. in Architecture
The Bachelor of Science in Architecture Program is a professional degree that is equivalent to the professional qualification of the Malaysian Board of Architects Part I, which is the first part of a two-tier architecture program.
The program focuses on studio projects based on architectural design skills and complementary courses. Competent skills and knowledge addressed by the program contribute to the development of architecture within the National framework, for long-term growth. Bachelor of Architecture tuition fees for academic year 2023-2024 is 11,080 Ringgit.
Master of Architecture
The Master of Architecture Course is a professional degree equal to the Board of Architects Malaysia Part II professional certification. It is a continuation of Board Architects Malaysia Part I, which is covered in UTM’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture curriculum.
As a taught course Masters Course, the curriculum is organized, with an emphasis on more research-based architectural design studio projects.
This concentration allows for a stronger intellectual and theoretical foundation in the architectural projects addressed within the curriculum while also contributing to the development of architecture within the National framework, which emphasizes sustainable development.
The emphasis on research adds to the technical, scientific, and technological issues already present in the courses.
The Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM), Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), and the Public Services Department all recognize the Master of Architecture program (JPA). PAM and LAM have recognized UTM’s architecture program as the first in the country.
The preceding three years of Bachelor of Science in Architecture are LAM Part I approved, while this two-year Master of Architecture is LAM Part II accredited. UTM master of architecture fees for academic year 2023-2024 is 29,500 Ringgit.
Ph.D. in Architecture
The faculty offers doctoral programs in architecture, quantity surveying, urban and regional planning, and transportation planning.
The programs are totally research-based, with students doing original research under the guidance of experienced supervisors who are also PhD holders. Ph.D. in Architecture tuition fee is 55,800 Ringgit for mixed mode and 48,600 for research mode.
