School Leadership

HEATH KONDRO

Principal, Sunway International School, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur

Mr. Kondro graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education and two Master of Education degrees in Technology and Administration Leadership.

Mr Kondro has taught World and Canadian history, economics, and communication technology in an international secondary school and college in Malaysia, as well as first-year university courses in Canada, with over 20 years of experience.

Mr. Kondro has served as the Technology Director of a Bolivian school and the Vice Principal of a Vietnamese middle school. Mr Kondro served as Student Affairs Coordinator and Deputy Principal at SIS in KL before being promoted to Principal.

MICHAEL OWEN

Deputy Principal,
Sunway International School,
Sunway City Kuala Lumpur

Mr Owen earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Language and Literacy from Brock University. He subsequently went on to pursue his Master of Professional Education at the University of Western Ontario after receiving his Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia.

Before joining SIS Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Mr Owen taught at Sunway College’s Canadian International Matriculation Program (CIMP). He has now worked with Sunway Education Group for nearly 15 years.

Mr Owen’s responsibilities as Deputy Principal at SIS KL include ensuring that SIS offers a safe and stimulating learning environment for all students. In addition, he is in charge of student discipline and school operations.

SYLVIA KWONG

Teacher & Academic Coordinator,
Sunway International School,
Sunway City Kuala Lumpur

Ms. Kwong, as Academic Coordinator, is in charge of all academic concerns at SIS. Ms. Kwong earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in Canada.

She also has a master’s degree in paleoclimatology from Royal Holloway, University of London. Geography, Biology, and Intermediate Mathematics are among Ms. Kwong’s teachable subjects.

She spent three years teaching in foreign schools in China and Canada before joining SIS in 2018. Before her appointment as Academic Coordinator, Ms. Kwong taught Biology at SIS for the OSSD and IBDP.

MARK MILBERG

Teacher and IBDP Coordinator,
Sunway International School,
Sunway City Kuala Lumpur

Mr Milberg has a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia with a major in Chemistry and Mathematics, a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University, and an Honours Specialist in Chemistry from the University of Toronto.

He is also a Chemistry and Mathematics educator with an IB diploma. Mr. Milberg has six years of teaching experience in Canada, three years in Vietnam, and six years with SIS.

Mr Milberg’s experience as an Ontario and IB educator is put to good use as the IBDP Coordinator at SIS, where he oversees the administration, development, and communication of the IB program.

LOW FUN FUN

Head – Admissions & Administration,

Ms Low came to SIS in 2012 because she was impressed by the school’s academic excellence and the Ontario curriculum originality. She had spent the previous 19 years working in different private educational institutions in areas such as course counseling and admissions, as well as public relations and marketing.

Ms Low is the admissions and administration director at SIS Sunway City KL, where she has a plethora of expertise. Ms Low frequently mentions that she enjoys working at SIS since learning there, like her name suggests, is fun!

Teachers and Educators

Middle School

ALBERT AFRICA

Albert Africa graduated from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics and Science.

He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Science under his belt. Before joining SIS, Mr. Africa taught for 5 years in South Africa, 4 years in the Middle East, and 2 years in Malaysia.

He has taught AP Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics to students in middle and high school.

DOUGLAS CULBERT

Core Teacher (Grade 7)

Douglas Culbert obtained his Bachelor of Education with a specialization in second language acquisition from the University of Alberta in Canada. He joins SIS in 2020 as a grade 7 homeroom teacher after 15 years of teaching in Qatar and two years in China.

GERARD KELLY

Gerard Kelly, a native of Ireland, has joined SIS. Gerard has a BA in Languages for International Communications from Dublin City University (DCU) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education-International from the University of Nottingham.

He formerly worked as an elementary school teacher in Barcelona, Spain. He joins SIS as a Grade 8 Mathematics and Social Studies teacher.

KAYLA DEASLEY

Core Teacher (Grade 6)

Kayla Deasley earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biology from Queen’s University. Ms. Deasley earned her master’s degree in science from the University of Guelph and subsequently worked at the University of Alberta.

Ms. Deasley earned a Master of Teaching degree with a specialization in Science from the University of Toronto, as well as a certificate in Mathematics. She is a Grade 6 teacher at SIS.

KAYTE JONES

Kayte Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Special Education from Marshall University in West Virginia.

Before coming to SIS, she spent four years teaching special education in Houston, Texas, in the United States of America. Mrs. Jones is a Grade 7 core teacher who started at SIS in January 2022.

LAURA KILBORN

Laura Kilborn received a Bachelor of Arts in News-Editorial Journalism from the University of Georgia (USA) and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) from Murdoch University (Australia).

Ms. Kilborn worked as a journalist, adjunct professor, and foreign humanitarian relief volunteer before becoming a classroom teacher. She has been a Grade 8 Core Teacher in Language Arts and Fine Arts at SIS for the past eight years.

MATT DILLON

Matt Dillon graduated from Acadia University with a major in environmental sustainability and a minor in business studies.

Before coming to SIS, he taught in Shanghai for 2 years and 1 year in Canada. Mr. Dillon joined SIS in 2021 and is currently teaching middle school science and physical education.

NICHOLAS TOWNS

Nicholas Towns graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English and History, as well as a Master of Arts in English. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Queen’s University.

He worked for ten years in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy, which led to his first abroad assignment in Indonesia.

He worked with children on the autistic spectrum as a therapist. Nicholas was a founding member of the SIS Grade 7 program in 2010, and he has also taught high school.

NICHOLAS VIDOTTO

Nicholas Vidotto received a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Communications and Law from the University of Ottawa. Mr. Vidotto obtained a Master of Teacher degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Toronto.

Mr. Vidotto worked as an Assistant Athletic Director at an international school in Bangkok before joining SIS. He is a SIS Middle School Facilitator and teaches Middle School Health and Physical Education.

NORASHIMAH JALIL

Norashimah Jalil received a Bachelor of Human Sciences with a major in History and Civilization from the Islamic International University Malaysia.

Ms. Shimah has taught Malaysian Studies, Moral Studies, and Islamic Studies at the pre-university level in local colleges for the past 11 years. She teaches Bahasa Malaysia to middle school students at SIS.

SUBATRA MUTHUSAMY

Subatra Muthusamy graduated from the Northern University of Malaysia with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) and a Master of Education in English Language Teaching. Ms. Subatra has more than 15 years of experience teaching English. Before joining SIS, she taught pre-university studies and teacher preparation courses at a local institution. Ms. Subatra has been teaching the SIS English for Academic Purposes curriculum since 2011.

High School

AARON MACARTHUR

Aaron MacArthur has spent the previous 12 years working in Malaysia, Singapore, China, Kuwait, and Indonesia in various international educational settings.

He has taught business leadership, international business, and mathematics. Mr. MacArthur has worked in schools that follow the International Baccalaureate, American, and Ontario curricula. He graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA, as well as a Bachelor of Education from the Onario Institute of Studies in Education.

APRIL VAN DODEWAARD

April Van Dodewaard received a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics from Trent University. She also graduated with A Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University, with a focus on Mathematics and Physics and a minor in Social Science.

She previously worked for two years at an international school in the Caribbean and one year at a private school in Toronto, Canada. Ms. Van Dodewaard is a Math teacher at SIS.

BRIAN LE

Brian Le received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Guelph in Ontario. He went on to receive a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Sunshine Coast in Australia, as well as a Brock University English language learner certificate.

He has 9 years of teaching experience and has taught in the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and Malaysia. Mr. Le specializes in English as a Second Language (ESL) and currently teaches high school ESL at SIS.

BRITTANY SCARFO

Guidance Counsellor

Brittany Scarfo received a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Literature and Global Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University.

She also graduated with A Bachelor of Education with a specialization in English and Geography from the University of Toronto, as well as a certificate in English as a Second Language.

She spent three years teaching English and ESL at a Canadian international school in Dalian, China, before coming to SIS. Ms Scarfo is a high school English teacher at SIS.

CHRISTINE NORRIS

Christine Norris has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Sociology and Education Science from the Université Laval in Quebec, as well as a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa in Ontario.

She also has a certification in French as a Second Language Specialist. Mme Norris has been a teacher for more than 20 years, in both Ontario and Belgium. In 2021, she will begin teaching Grade 9 French at SIS.

CLAIRE WATSON

Claire Watson taught throughout Southeast Asia, China, and the Middle East for more than a decade. She taught Advanced Placement, American, International Baccalaureate, and Ontario curricula in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education.

Ms. Watson graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science (Hons), a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, and a Master of Education from Charles Sturt University.

DANIEL EVES

Daniel Eves received a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Health Science from York University. He achieved his bachelor’s degree in education from Lakehead University in Ontario, and he also holds certifications in mathematics and physical education.

Mr. Eves has been teaching high school mathematics and health and physical education at SIS since 2013.

EASTON HANNA

Easton Hanna obtained a Diploma in Child and Youth Counseling from Mohawk College before enrolling at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree.

In 2007, he graduated from York University in Toronto with a Bachelor of Education. Mr. Hanna spent eight years in Malaysia teaching with the Canadian Pre-University Program before returning home to work for the Halton District School Board for two years. In January 2020, he started teaching Grade 9 English at SIS.

GIUSEPPE SAURO

Giuseppe Sauro holds a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University, as well as a K-12 Music Teacher Certification. He also holds a Concordia University Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrative Music Studies.

Mr. Sauro has taught in both Canada and Qatar. For numerous years, he has also been a member of musical groups and bands, performing a wide range of musical styles in Quebec and Ontario, as well as in Morocco. Mr. Sauro began teaching Grade 9 Music Theory at SIS in 2018.

JARED KEDDY

Jared Keddy graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English and a Master of Arts in Philosophy.

He received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Toronto in Ontario. Mr. Keddy taught for three years in Korea and Thailand before joining SIS. In SIS, he currently teaches high school English as well as IBDP Theory of Knowledge.

JASON HOOK

Jason Hook has a BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, an MA from Purdue University Global, and a certified teacher from Point Park University. Mr. Hook has been teaching since 2005 and has experience at all levels of education, from pre-kindergarten to university.

Mr. Hook has taught Business English and English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Czech Republic, Korea, and China. Mr. Hook first came to Malaysia to teach at a private institution and is now a Grade 10 English teacher at SIS.

JASON LEVY

Jason Levy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Politics from York University in Canada. He has a Master’s degree in History and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Queen’s University. He has taught history and business at SIS after working as a teacher in Korea and China.

JESSICA KENZINGTON

Jessica Kenzington received a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in Ontario. Her areas of expertise include French and English, and she also holds a teaching certificate in English Language Learners.

Ms. Kenzington taught Drama and English in Guangzhou, China, before coming to SIS. She is currently employed at SIS, where she teaches high school English and French.

LIM ANN LAY

Lim Ann Lay graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), a Diploma in Education from the University of Science Malaysia, and a Master of Modern Language Studies from the University of Malaya.

Mr. Lim has 26 years of teaching experience in Malaysia and Singapore, where he has taught pupils in both local and international curriculums, as well as IB Diploma programs. Mr. Lim teaches Bahasa Malaysia to high school students at SIS.

LUC DEGRACE

Luc Degrace holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Sciences) and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Laval University. He subsequently went on to the University of Ottawa, where he earned a Bachelor of Education.

Mr. Degrace taught for two years in Taiwan and four years in Canada before coming to SIS. He is currently employed at SIS, where he teaches Grade 9 Geography and Grade 10 French.

LUSY KOROR

Lusy Koror studied Cultural Theory, Media, and Communications at Lancaster University, before deciding to follow her passion for teaching art. Subsequently, she then completed a second BA Hons at the University of the West of England in Drawing and Applied Arts and trained to be a teacher at the Institute of Education, part of University College London (UCL).

Ms. Koror taught in the United Kingdom for 3 years and in Malaysia for more than 9 years. She joined the SIS in July 2021 and is the lead Art Teacher for Grade 9 and Grade 11.

MAGGIE ZHU

Maggie Zhu graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics for Education and a Bachelor of Education for the intermediate senior division.

She holds certifications in both mathematics and dance. She spent 2.5 years teaching in China before joining SIS. Ms. Zhu is a new teacher at SIS, and she will be teaching Grade 12 Advanced Functions, as well as Calculus and Vector.

MARIE-JOSÉE TALBOT-PROVOST

High School Facilitator & IBDP French ab initio

Marie-Josée Talbot-Provost graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Education with a major in French and minors in Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology.

She also holds a master’s degree in special education. Mme Talbot previously worked in a private high school in Québec, Canada. She has taught Visual Arts, History, and French to Canadian and IB students at SIS.

MATTHEW TEBOGT

Matt teBogt graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biological Sciences. At York University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in education.

Mr. teBogt began teaching at SIS in 2017 and spent four years in the Middle School program before transitioning to high school science in 2021.

MAUREEN MCMULLIGH

Maureen McCulligh earned a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Social Studies from the University of Victoria (Geography and History).

Ms. McCulligh began teaching at SIS in 2020 and presently teaches Grades 9 and 11 Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology. Ms. McCulligh formerly taught in Shanghai, China, and Casablanca, Morocco, before coming to SIS.

MYRIAM LACERTE

Myriam Lacerte received a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Leisure Studies from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and a Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Health and Physical Education from the University of Ottawa, Ontario.

She formerly taught Health and Physical Education in Ottawa, Ontario, before coming to SIS. Mme Lacerte has joined SIS to teach Grade 9 French and Healthy Active Living Education.

NICOLE VELLA-GELDART

Nicole Vella-Geldart received a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Ecology from the University of Guelph. Ms. Vella worked as a biologist for the Canadian, American, Australian, and Ecuadorian governments, as well as Texas A&M University and Virginia Commonwealth University, before becoming a teacher.

She received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Before coming to SIS in 2020, Ms. Vella taught for seven years in Canada and Trinidad.

ROBERT BISSON

Robert Bisson received a Bachelor of Arts (Law in Society & Sociology) from the University of New Brunswick in Canada, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science & History), a Bachelor of Education, and a Masters in Educational Technology from Memorial University in Canada.

Before joining the teaching at SIS High School in 2018, Mr. Bisson taught in Canada, China, and Malaysia.

SHARON THANGARAJ

Sharon Thangaraj has been awarded a scholarship from the Securities Commission of Malaysia to study Economics and Finance at the undergraduate level in the United Kingdom.

She returned to the Commission for 4.5 years after graduating with a First Class Honors in BSc Economics and Finance, working in Investor Affairs, Risk Management, and Corporate Finance. She subsequently moved on to pursue a full-time teaching career, and since 2018, she has been teaching Grade 11 Economics and Accounting in SIS.

In 2021, she received several accolades for her dedication to teaching, including the Most Promising New Teacher Award and the Student Appreciation Award.

SUBATRA MUTHUSAMY

Subatra Muthusamy graduated from the Northern University of Malaysia with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) and a Master of Education in English Language Teaching.

SYLVIA KWONG

Academic Coordinator & IBDP Biology Teacher

Sylvia Kwong, as Academic Coordinator, is in charge of all academic concerns at SIS. Ms. Kwong earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in Canada.

She also has a master’s degree in paleoclimatology from Royal Holloway, University of London. Geography, Biology, and Intermediate Mathematics are among Ms. Kwong’s teachable subjects.

She spent three years teaching in foreign schools in China and Canada before joining SIS in 2018. Before she was appointed Academic Coordinator, Ms. Kwong taught Biology for the OSSD and IBDP at SIS.

TERRANCE TAM

Terrance Tam earned a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto’s concurrent teacher education program.

Before joining SIS in July 2017, he tutored for more than ten years at Kumon Math and Reading Center, taught math in the United Kingdom for a year, and supplied for the Toronto District School Board Elementary Division for two years. Mr. Tam is the lead faculty adviser for the SIS High School Student Council and teaches math.

VANESSA EVES

Vanessa Eves graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor of Physical Education (Hons) and a Bachelor of Education. Mrs. Eves also holds a Master of Education from Memorial University, with a focus on Educational Leadership.

Vanessa taught throughout Asia, Europe, and Africa before coming to SIS. Mrs. Eves has been a member of the SIS team since 2013. She began her career as a Grade 8 core teacher before moving on to Business and Marketing. She is currently employed as a high school mathematics teacher.

Pre-University

DR TAN SWEE CHUAN

Physics Teacher

Dr. Tan Swee Chuan graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Science in Education (Hons) and a Master of Philosophy in Laser Physics. He also has a Ph.D. in education from the same university, with a focus on Curriculum and Instructional design.

Before joining SIS, he taught pre-university physics in a variety of programs (AUSMAT, OSSD Grade 12, A-levels, and IBDP). He is currently teaching IBDP physics at both the advanced and standard levels.

JARED KEDDY

Jared Keddy graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English and a Master of Arts in Philosophy.

LOW SOK KIAN

Low Sok Kian graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from the Open University Malaysia.

Before joining SIS, she taught Mandarin at various foreign schools. She began teaching Mandarin at SIS in 2017 and currently teaches IBDP and an after-school program.

MARC BROTHERS

Marc Brothers is a graduate of the University of Windsor in Canada. Since 2003, he has been teaching Business Management, Economics, History, Geography, and Humanities to middle and high school students in Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, Kuwait, and China.

He brings with him 5 years of experience in the IB Diploma Programme. He is currently teaching IB Business Management and IB Environmental Systems and Societies.

MARIE-JOSÉE TALBOT-PROVOST

Marie-Josée Talbot-Provost graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Education with a major in French and minors in Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology.

She also holds a master’s degree in special education. Mme Talbot previously worked in a private high school in Québec, Canada. She has taught Visual Arts, History, and French to Canadian and IB students at SIS.

MARTIN PAGÉ

Martin Pagé graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education. Mr. Pagé has been teaching Advanced Functions and Calculus in Sunway College’s Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) since 2011.

He formerly taught Mathematics and Chemistry in a private high school in Montréal. He is still teaching high school and IBDP Mathematics at SIS.
