Sunway International School Calendar 2024

The mission of Sunway International Schools (SIS) is to prepare students for success in higher education, upcoming careers, and beyond by offering them globally relevant and recognized school curricula.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and the Canadian school curriculum are solely offered by us, the first and only international schools in Malaysia. We explore Sunway International School Calendar for a 2024 and its curriculum.

Canadian (Ontario) Curriculum

When measured by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), which evaluates students’ abilities in literacy (reading, languages), numeracy (mathematics), and inquiry, Canada’s educational system is consistently ranked among the top 10 in the world (sciences).

The PISA also gives Canada’s educational system a higher ranking than those of other English-speaking nations, including the UK, US, and Australia, to name a few.
This has been the case since the 2003 PISA began, and more current PISA rankings from 2012, 2015, and 2018 continue to reflect this.

The Canadian educational system is successful in part because of its emphasis on helping students become “whole people” and giving them strong “learning skills” and good “work habits.”

Kindergarten Calendar

The Kindergarten Program at SIS serves children between the ages of 4 and 5. Sunway International School Calendar for Full-Day Kindergarten program emphasizes learning through play.

By using engaging and enjoyable methods, we help kids build strong foundations in reading, writing, spelling, oral communication, math, and social skills.

They also introduce pupils to new languages like Mandarin and Malay. They also include music, art, and physical education in their kindergarten program.

Primary School

Sunway International School Calendar for Primary School Program calendar at SIS serves students in Grades 1 through 5. Their primary school places a strong emphasis on providing personalized instruction that is centered on the needs of the students using carefully chosen resources.

While focusing on learning techniques and work habits, they help students strengthen their literacy, numeracy, global competencies, and 21st-century abilities.

The primary school curriculum includes:

• Social Studies
• Health & Physical Education
• Arts (Music, Visual Arts)

Middle School

The Ontario curriculum in Canada divides subjects into Core and Rotary categories.

Students in grades 6 through 8 in Sunway Middle School study Mathematics, English, the Arts, and Social Studies.

The homeroom teacher teaches these subjects and applies cross-curricular (inter-disciplinary) teaching strategies to all of these subject areas.

The homeroom teacher can also concentrate on each student’s learning requirements and areas of strength.

The rotational subjects are in addition to the core subjects and include Science, Health, Physical Education, and Languages (French, Mandarin, Malay). Subject-matter experts instruct Rotary courses.

High School

For the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), students must successfully complete the following requirements.

 Academic Credit Courses

In Sunway High School, at least 30 credits, including 18 required credits and 12 elective credits, must be earned by students.

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

This literacy test, which is often administered in Grade 10, assesses a student’s reading and writing abilities in accordance with the language and communication standards up to and including Grade 9.

Community Involvement Activities

In order to successfully complete this component, students must regularly engage with their communities and take advantage of opportunities to learn the skills and values they will need for their future employment and civic responsibilities.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

After successfully completing the aforementioned prerequisites, students are awarded this culminating pre-university qualification. Universities all across the world accept the OSSD.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The IB programs are a part of a truly global curriculum that is not connected to any nation’s national education system.
It improves students’ functional language proficiency as well as their knowledge and abilities in a variety of subject areas, giving them the tools they need to learn, think, evaluate, and solve issues in a multidisciplinary manner.

Both SIS sites prioritize students demonstrating the IB Learner Profile traits in order for them to become responsible students and major contributors to their school and community. These campuses are IB World Schools.

The IB emphasizes students developing global perspectives, using interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, learning independently and in collaboration with others, and taking a critical and informed approach to decision-making.

IB graduates typically outperform their peers in higher-level coursework and are well-regarded for entry into selective programs and elite colleges.

Important Dates for IBDP and CP Students

Sunway University offers a comprehensive educational experience for students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Career-related Programme (CP). Below are the key dates for exams and assessments in 2024. Make sure to mark these in your calendar!
