Program Review

Sunway Master of Information Systems is designed to give students the opportunity to do rigorous theoretical and methodological research in information systems and to build their capacity to organize, plan, and conduct master’s level research projects. It increases students’ understanding of research in the field of study and develops their communication abilities.

The graduates of the program will also get a degree from Lancaster University upon satisfactory completion. With the two credentials they will get, they will have graduated from Lancaster University as well as Sunway University.

Program Structure

The Master of Science in Information Systems (by Research) comprises of one thesis and two taught courses. Before beginning to write the thesis, candidates must finish two taught modules: Directed Readings and Research Methodology. Candidates will gain the skills and information needed to successfully conduct research toward a master’s degree by completing these two modules.

Research Methodology

Candidates will get the chance to go at the methodology and study designs used by information systems researchers, as well as their methods for analyzing data. Upon completion of this module, applicants will be required to develop and present a research proposal in a field related to their area of interest or expertise.

Directed Readings

Students will get extensive reading lists and materials in this module to aid in the development of their research models and areas of interest. This curriculum will also provide literature review skills and information and resource management training.

Thesis

A thesis must be completed successfully in order to receive an MSc. The thesis should show the author’s expertise, critical thinking, and knowledge of the selected field of study.

• Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI in Information Systems is about making smart machines. Students learn to make machines that think like humans, for better decision-making and innovation.

• Visual Sensor Networks: This field involves using cameras and sensors to gather visual information. Students study how to set up and use these networks for things like security and traffic control.

• Big Data and Data Analytics: This area teaches students how to manage and understand large amounts of data. They learn to analyze this data to make important decisions in business and other areas.
• Sensing and Signal Processing: This field is about collecting and understanding signals, like sound or images. Students learn about sensors and how to process signal data for uses in healthcare, communication, and more.
• Cybersecurity and Blockchain: Students learn how to protect digital information. They study computer security, safe online transactions, and blockchain technology for keeping data secure.
• Embedded Systems and Applications: This area focuses on creating small computer systems for specific tasks. Students learn to design and use these systems in different industries, like automotive or electronics.
• Machine Learning and Human Factors: This field combines machine learning with understanding human behavior. Students learn to create machine learning systems that are easy and comfortable for people to use.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Sunway Master of Information Systems Candidates should have one of the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computing with minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent
• Any other qualifications will be considered on a case-to-case basis and subject to the approval and acceptance by University Senate.

English Requirements

International candidates must demonstrate English ability sufficient to satisfy the program’s requirements:

• IELTS 6.0
• TOEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (Internet-based)
• PTE Academic 50 overall (minimum 46 in each skill)

Note: Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English would have met the language requirement.
