One of the most esteemed medical schools in Malaysia is the Faculty of Medicine at University Kebangsaan Malaysia. UKM Cheras Campus is a hub for pre-clinical and clinical medical education, and Hospital Tuanku Canselor Muhriz (HCTM) serves as the teaching hospital.

Doctor of Medicine

The medical program consists of a preclinical phase of basic medical sciences lasting two years, a junior clinical clerkship stage lasting one year, and a senior medical clerkship stage lasting two years (2 years).

The emphasis is on problem-solving, inquiry techniques, critical thinking, and independent learning approaches. Along with leadership and communication abilities related to working with other healthcare professionals, students are expected to graduate from the course with capabilities in the relevant information and clinical skills.

Through a unique research module, the course also gives graduates the skills necessary for lifelong learning and medical research. Over the course of the 5-year program’s personal and professional development modules, students gain critical soft skills, a grasp of medical ethics, and a feeling of social responsibility.

Our goal is to create well-rounded medical professionals who are qualified for additional postgraduate training and who can serve society in a variety of demanding job contexts. Throughout the course of the program, a mentor-mentee relationship supports the students.

Entry Requirements

STPM / MATRICULATION / ASASIpintar
A minimum CGPA of 3.80 and a minimum of Grade B (GP 3.0) in the following
subjects :

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics (Logical Reasoning/Statistics/Vector Calculus)

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Obtained 37 points with a minimum of 2 Science or Mathematics
at the “Higher Level” (HL) and 1 science subject at Standard Level
AND
Obtain at least a score of 4 in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics / Mathematics

General Certificate of Education Advanced (‘A’) Level

Obtained a minimum of Grade AAB or ABB in 3 of the following subjects :

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics / Mathematics

Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM level in the following subjects :

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and
  • One other subject

Graduated from an institution recognized by MQA or certified by JPA
Subject to the decision of the student selection committee

Language Requirements

  • A minimum of Level 4 (Band 4) in the Malaysian University English Test
    (MUET) Band 4.0 (Malaysian students)
  • TOEFL: 550
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • Pass an interview conducted by the faculty

B.Sc. in Emergency Medicine with Honors

In order to increase the number of graduates with degrees in the field of Assistant Medical Officer, UKM collaborated with the Medical Assistant Board, Medical Assistant Association, and Medical Assistant Union to design this degree program. The program, which is one of the unique programs for Assistant Medical Officers, began in 2007.

The coursework for this program is done full-time. In this curriculum, many instructional techniques, including simulation-based learning, problem-solving, lectures, clinical attachment, and others, are emphasized. In addition to leadership and communication abilities, students are expected to graduate from the programs with proficiency in pertinent clinical knowledge and skills.

Students in this curriculum are also introduced to the capabilities of medical research. They must do their research under the supervision of authority in the field. The purpose of this program is to develop graduates with a broad base of knowledge and abilities in emergency medicine.

Entry Requirements

Special Conditions of the Faculty:

  • Candidates must pass Matriculation courses with at least CGPA of 2.33 and obtain at least Grade C for the following two
    subjects: Biology or Physics / Mathematics or Chemistry OR
  • Candidates must pass STPM exams with at least CGPA of 2.33 and get at least Grade C for the following two subjects:
    Biology or Physics / Mathematics or Chemistry OR
  • Candidates must obtain at least Grade D for the following two subjects: Biology or Physics / Mathematics or Chemistry OR
  • Candidates must have a Diploma approval with at least CGPA 2.75 in the relevant field AND

Bachelor of Nursing with Honors

This basic nursing course aims to prepare entry-level nurses who can assume high levels of responsibility in clinical nursing while also attempting to raise the standard of care via ongoing research and development in the nursing industry.

In-depth medical care, social sciences, humanities, nursing research, public health and society, and management science are all included in the 4-year course that covers all the material covered in the diploma degree.

Additional coursework will advance their professional development and enable them to practice more widely, gain a deeper comprehension of cultural, political, economic, and social issues, be better able to adapt to change, work in interdisciplinary teams, and combine their clinical expertise with their understanding of available community resources.

In addition to providing a more intensive approach to critical thinking and problem solving, a bachelor’s degree in nursing also offers a higher credit score in liberal education in nursing philosophy and theories, medical sociology, ethical and medicolegal issues, the ability to analyze and communicate data, education, and patient counseling.

The development of leadership and communication skills, patient education, patient assessment, planning, and evaluation of care abilities, as well as the creation of critical pathways—which are crucial in the clinical setting—are even more crucial.

Advanced Diploma in Midwifery

For Registered Nurses who hold a Diploma in Nursing or a Bachelor of Nursing, this course is an Advanced Diploma in Midwifery. Graduates can operate safely in a variety of obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology areas after completing the course.

Women’s health, community care with a focus on family and culture, and antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatology are the six topics covered by the program. Engineering and medical science that are concerned with the most recent and emotional needs.

The curriculum also emphasizes prevention, early problem detection, education of mothers and their families, and progressive care from conception through the start of a family.

A modular approach is used to operate the curriculum full-time for one academic year or two semesters. The UKM Medical Center’s Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Nursing, Department of Family Medicine, and Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, is responsible for the exercise’s control theory, practice, and student evaluation.
