Program Overview
Students choose a research issue or topic within the area of medical science and work independently on a research project with supervisory direction.
They must complete one taught module, Clinical Research Methodology, which is aimed to educate students for project planning and management competencies, as well as to ensure they become ethically literate and socially responsible.
Students must complete a thesis based on their original research and then pass the thesis test and viva voce to graduate.

Clinical Research Methodology
An advanced study of research project administration. The first section goes over how to create a scientific study in health and medical contexts, covering research topics, hypotheses, method selection, problem resolution, and data collecting and analysis.
The second section covers ethical philosophy and ethical difficulties relating to clinical research, particularly the use of human material. The third section of this subject is on statistical analysis and its methodologies.
Thesis
The thesis is based on original research conducted by students throughout their PhD candidacy. In order to be given a PhD degree, students must submit a PhD thesis and pass the thesis examination.

Entry Requirements
General Requirements
Sunway PhD of Medical Science candidates should have one of the following qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in medical science or related fields accepted by the University Senate
- Other qualifications that are equivalent to a Master’s degree or professional qualification related to the field of Medical Science and experience recognized by the University Senate.
- A Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:
- A bachelor’s degree in medical science or related fields with CGPA 3.67 or higher or its equivalent from an academic program or a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program may direct progression to PhD program and approval by the University Senate; OR
- A relevant bachelor’s degree with CGPA 3.00 may convert their candidacy to the PhD program after one year of studying at Master level and approval by the University Senate.
English Requirements
International candidates must demonstrate English ability sufficient to satisfy the program’s requirements:
- IELTS 6.0
- TOEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), 80 (internet-based)
