APU BSc of Actuarial Studies is a degree about understanding financial risks. It is based on math, statistics, and finance, and it teaches students how to predict and handle money related uncertainties. This knowledge is used in many areas like insurance, pensions, healthcare, banking, and investing.

Program Outline

APU BSc of Actuarial Studies is specifically designed to teach students :

  • A course of study in Actuarial Science which has been awarded full accreditation from the IFoA (UK).
  • Competent teaching staff with professional or specialized academic qualification, possessing working experience from actuarial industries/academia.
  • Course syllabus which is comprehensively structured in tandem and compliance with the 2 biggest actuarial bodies, the IFoA (UK) and the SOA (US).
  • Comprehensive guidance to mold graduates to be industry-ready.

Degree Level 1

In year 1,  students explore the foundational principles of Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, and Finance. Beside these main subjects, students will also experience  Business, Communication, and Information Technology skills.

This foundation sets the stage for the advanced topics they will meeting in Level 2 of their Actuarial Science studies.

Degree Level 2

Degree Level 3

In year 3, Students are prepared to combine their learning and practical experience to actively use their skills in planning, managing, and assessing risks. At this stage, the focus is on judging a business’s financial health through the eyes of an actuary.

They get to see firsthand how vital actuaries are, especially when it comes to creating and setting prices for insurance offerings. Skills like Risk Management, Actuarial Modeling, and Ratemaking are among the many tools they will learn to use.

APU-DMU Dual Degree

Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Program are presented with the opportunity to join the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. By choosing this pathway, upon graduation, students will be awarded two Degree Certificates & Transcripts: one from Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia and another from De Montfort University (DMU) in the UK.

Admission Requirements

General Requirements
Direct Entry to Level 1 of Degree
STPM • 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics at SPM Level or its equivalent. (MUET Band 2 is required for all Malaysian Students)
A-Level • 2 Passes in A-Level in any 2 subjects, and a Credit in Mathematics at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE or its equivalent.
UEC • 5 Grade B’s in UEC including Mathematics. (MUET Band 2 is required for all Malaysian Students)
Foundation/ Matriculation • Passed Foundation program (minimum CGPA of 2.5) with a Credit in Mathematics at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE or equivalent.
Direct Entry to Level 2 of Degree
Diploma in Accounting • Passed Diploma with minimum CGPA of 2.5 and a Credit in Mathematics at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE level.

English Requirements for International Students

  • IELTS : 6
  • TOEFL iBT : 60
  • Pearson (PTE) : 59
  • MUET : Band 4.0
