APU MPhil in Engineering program is designed for postgraduate learners who are interested in solving important problems. The course of study gives students a deep look into the theories behind many professional engineering fields, such as civil, electrical, electronics, mechanical, and mechatronics. Graduate students begin by analyzing issues, then create research projects and apply their findings or inventions to industry or the commercial market.

This course provides students with the knowledge and abilities they need to succeed in competitive research, presentation, and publication of their findings in national and international scientific publications. The program encourages graduate students to attend at least one national and international engineering conference during their studies to broaden their networks and working contacts with supervisors, colleagues, and the wider research community.

Courses and Exams

APU University MPhil in Engineering is based on research and is evaluated by personal presentations and reports at several stages, including a Proposal Defense, regular twice a year progress monitoring at research colloquiums, Work Completion Defense, Thesis Examination, and Viva Voce. Students must take at least one taught course on Research Methodology to get the necessary knowledge to execute their research successfully. Regular conferences with supervisors are expected to ensure the direction of the research as well as the quality and significance of the findings.

Transformation to PHD

If a student finishing the Research Degree program passes all of the requirements listed below, they may become a PhD candidate:
(a) Show remarkable advancement in their studies.
(b) Capable of proving that their project has the potential to be pursued to the doctoral level.
(c) Complete a demanding test.

A successful conversion results in the student becoming a PhD candidate, with their candidature start date retroactively set to their original Research Degree registration date, rather than a candidate for a Research Degree. As a result, it saves the student from having to finish a Masters degree and enables them to receive a PhD award more quickly.

Program Outline

The program aims to teach students:

  • knowledge of how to create, produce, and oversee the generation of new ideas.
  • comprehensive understanding of a particular engineering-related field of study.
  • Knowledge and experience in advanced research can help students apply to PhD programs.

APU-DMU Dual Degree

Students enrolled in the Masters Degree Program will have the option to participate in the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Students will receive two Degree Certificates and Transcripts upon graduation under this Scheme: one from Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia and one from De Montfort University (DMU) in the United Kingdom.

Admission Requirements

General Requirement
  • A Bachelor’s degree accepted by APU Senate with minimum CGPA of 2.75; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, is acceptable subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 is acceptable subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree that are accepted by APU Senate.

English Requirements for International Students
