Program Outline
APU Diploma in International Studies is specifically designed to teach students :
- Provide both academic and vocational aspects of International Studies.
- Prepare students for careers in the field of international studies.
- Provide students with the academic and professional skills needed to generate solutions in the field of International Studies that require an overall point of view.
- Give students critical, independent, and cooperative learning abilities to help them deal with the constant change in the global community.
- Improve students’ intellectual abilities, communication skills, and teamwork abilities.
- Give students the option to earn degrees of international rank in relevant fields.
Semester 1
During this semester, APU Diploma in International Studies students will be introduced to preparatory modules that will be necessary for them to begin the process toward completing their diploma.
Students will learn academic English, the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and business, and computer skills. Students must additionally complete one General Studies course, as mandated by the Malaysian Qualification Agency.

Semester 2
This semester continues from semester 1 on preparation courses, where students will gain professional communication skills. They will also practice academic research skills that will be useful in their future employment.
They will be exposed to worldwide commercial trends as well as Critical International Film Studies, which will provide them with an overview of some international topics.

Semester 3
Beginning in semester 3, students will learn about core field of international studies, which will include an introduction to international relations and international history.
Understanding political ideologies and their impact on world affairs will also be emphasized over the semester. Current difficulties and challenges confronting Malaysia in its foreign relations will also be discussed.

Semester 4
Students will learn about important international studies problems, particularly the impact of globalization and the function of international organizations in global affairs, beginning in semester 3.
They will also learn about the many global political systems and governments, as well as how social movements and revolutions affect the fundamental elements of the international system.
They will also research environmental challenges and concerns like climate change, biodiversity loss, and insufficient leadership.

Semester 5
Students will explore about additional theoretical and conceptual frameworks in semester 5 to apply to real world case studies in the international arena.
They will also study international political economy, which focuses on how and why countries integrate into a global economy, as well as regionalism, such as Southeast Asia, where students will learn about ASEAN.
Students will also be exposed to various environmental challenges and concerns as a continuation from the previous semester.

Semester 6 – Internship (8 weeks)
Students must take part in an Internship/Industrial Training program for a minimum of 8 weeks.
This program aims to provide a smooth transition for students from their educational environment to the formal workplace.
Additional Studies
After successfully completing this program with a CGPA of 2.5 or above and fulfilling the credit transfer requirements, students will be able to continue to Level 2 of the following APU degree programs.

APU-DMU Dual Degree
Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Program are presented with the opportunity to join the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. By choosing this pathway, upon graduation, students will be awarded two Degree Certificates and Transcripts: one from Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia and another from De Montfort University (DMU) in the UK.
